Identify common causes of irritant and allergic contact dermatitis.
A
Irritant
- NON-immunologically mediated rxn from a direct cytotoxic effect
- Either from a single or repeated exposure to the irritant
- Ex. soap, skin products, perfume, wool, friction
Allergic
- NOT IMMEDIATE
- Requires contact exposure of an allergen, immune response and development of MEMORY T cells
- Type IV Delayed HSR
- Nickel, fragrances, poison ivy

Appearance: erythematous papules, redness, scaling and areas of lichenification
MUST HAVE ITCHY SKIN PLUS 3:
- Hx of involvement in skin creases (or face if pt < 10 yrs) - Hx of asthma / hay fever (or FH of atopic disease if pt < 4 yrs) - Hx of dry skin within the last year - Visible flexural eczema (or face if pt < 4 yrs) - Onset under 2 years of age

Compare and contrast the clinical presentations of acne and rosacea

Acne
• impacts greasy areas
Rosacea
• Erythematous disorder of the central face (diffuse)
• No comedones and no involvement of the trunk
• Telangiectasias
• Flushing
• In 25% cases, eyelids and conjunctivae are involved
