Inferential Statistics Flashcards
Inferential Statistics
Infer whether or not the study would hold true or be able to be replicated would we find that for the whole population.
Descriptive Statistics
Describe your sample.
•Ex: Water ‘in your cup’ ‘from the pool,’ describes the ‘water in the pool.’
Hypothesis Test
A statistical method that uses sample data to evaluate a hypothesis about a population.
Did our results occur by chance?
Polka Dot Skittle:
Was it just an accident?
Skepticism
is a positive in science and logic studies.
Null Hypothesis (Ho)
Null hypothesis states that there is no differences between our groups.
•Always assume Null, then test against it.
Ho (Null)
•Actually says that our results were just a fluke.
•p < .05, 95% reliability.
If we did our experiment 100xs we would get our results by chance alone - 5xs.
Alternative/Experiment/Research Hypothesis (H1)
We are saying that we are very sure there it is significant.
