Inferential Statistics Flashcards
What is Descriptive statistics?
Measures of dispersion and central tendency .
What is Inferential statistics?
Statistical tests analyse data at a deeper level to see whether any findings are SIGNIFICANT .
In levels of measurement, what are the 4 different types of data being analysed?
Nominal, ordinal, interval and ratio.
What is nominal?
Shows categories of data represented by frequencies. The data sets have no relative numerical value, e.g. boys and girls.
What is ordinal?
Data can be placed into ascending or descending order, but the intervals between data are not necessarily equal, e.g. the times for first, second and third in a race.
What is interval?
Has equal numerical intervals between scores, e.g. temperature. The interval between 1 and 2 degrees is the same as between 21 and 22 degrees etc.
What is ratio?
The level of measurement that has equal intervals between scores and has an absolute or true zero point, e.g. speed (mph).
What is the least sophisticated?
Nominal
What is the most sophisticated?
Ratio
What is the order from least to most sophisticated?
Nominal, ordinal, interval and ratio.
In inferential data, what is unrelated data?
Independant groups
In inferential data, what is related data?
Repeated measures and matched pairs
