A

Hand: Clubbing, Splinter Haemorrhages, Janeway lesions, Osler’s nodes

Chest: changing heart murmur

Abdominal: Splenomegaly, Microscopic haematuria ( emboli to the kidneys)

Causes

Most common in developing countries

Colorectal cancer

A

Streptococcus viridans was the most common cause of infective endocarditis. This is no longer the case, except in developing countries.

Staphylococcus aureus is now the most common cause of infective endocarditis.

Staphylococcus epidermidis commonly colonize indwelling lines and are the most cause of endocarditis in patients following prosthetic valve surgery,

Streptococcus bovis is associated with colorectal cancer

Management

A

Pen allergic: Vancomycin

Staph Aureus: Flucloxacillin + gentamycin
Prosthetic vlave: + rifampicin

Strep viridans: benzylpenicllin + gentamycin
