In infections what are you trying to determine in the examination
The site/origin of the infection
Severity
What’s the SIRS criteria?
Temperature above 38 or below 36
Heart rate above 90
RT above 20
Wbc above 12 or below 4
Signs of systemic organ failure?
Heart- pulmonary oedema (bilateral crepitations)
Kidneys - high creatinine, low urinary output
Lung - low O2 sats
Brain- GCS drops
️Liver- jaundice, abdo pain, swelling, nausea
Gut - increased lactate, absent bowel sounds
Coagulation cascade- DIC
