What are the normal values for midstream urine?
Less than 10^5 colonies/mL and Less than 4 WBCs/mm#

colonies/mL of single bacterial strain is diagnostic of
Asymptomatic Bacteriuria and can signify UTI
Even greater than 10^2 fu/mL, however, may represent a UTI in women with
Acute urethral syndrome
Raises pretest probability of UTI by 25%
-Indicates presence of neutrophils
Positive leukocyte esterase
A positive dipstick test will show
Leukocyte esterase and Nitrites
Positive Nitrites indicates infection from
Gram negative species
-typically from ennterobacteriacae family
An inflammatory response associated with bacteriuria and pyuria
