  • conjunctival redness
  • discharge (eg watery or thick, depending on type)

What is keratitis?

A
An inflammation of the cornea
Like conjuctivitis but includes 
-more pain
-photophobia
-reduced vision
Very serious and is vision threatning

Whats the main difference between bacterial and viral conjunctivitis?

A

Bacterial has a pussy, thick, white/yellow discharge (purulent or mucopurlent)
Viral has a watery discharge

Whats the treatment options for bacterial conjunctivitis?

A

None -usually resolves in 2-5 days
bath lids in hot compress
antibiotics to improve short term outome

Why do people get bacterial keratitis?

A

Normally due to opportunistic bacteria entering a damaged epithelium in the cornea

  • Injury
  • Dry eye
