mycoplasma pneumonia- features + who does it affect?

A

worsening dry cough, patchy lower lobe consolidation

  • occurs in hospitals & unis

also if they mention toe pain - you should know ( this is due to cold autoimmune hemolytic anaemia- a complication of mycoplasma pneumonia)

if patient is MRSA +ve - what is the treatment that should be initiated?

A

if signs of infection - give abx- vancomycin

if no signs but they are +ve, give nasal mupirocin & chlorhexidine wash - standard decolonisation therapy
