fine motor skills
The use of fingers and hand, as an example, infants being able to grasp their parents’ fingers or suck them thumbs.
gross motor skills
Are large movements in the body e.g. the arms and legs, are used when a baby is crawling.
Innate Reflexes
Are available when the baby is born.
rooting reflex
When a person brushes their finger across a baby’s face, he or she will turn their head towards it, and suck your finger or if breastfeeding it will start sucking your breast.
grasp reflex
Stroke your finger in your baby’s palm and it should grasp onto your finger.
Tongue-thrust Reflexes
If you touch a baby’s spoon onto the tip of their tongue it will push the spoon back out. The reflex helps them of choking on foreign objects.
