- The controls and regulations that exist about media content
- Held by governments or reglatory bodies
What is a Conglomerate?
A large corporation that owns a large number of media companies such as:
* Television
* Radio
* Internet
* Publishing
What is Cross Media ownership?
This describes any company whose assets include two or more media forms
Examples:
* Bauer owning magaxines and rado stations
What does Distribution mean?
The ways a company markets and releases their product to the audience
What is Impress?
A self-regulatory body for the UK press (alternative to IPSO)
What does IPSO stand for?
Independent Press Standards Organisation
What does IPSO do?
Its the independent regulator of the newspaper and magazine industry in the UK.
What is OFCOM
Ofcom regulates TV, radio, video-on-demand, phone and postal services.
What does PEGI stand for?
Pan European Game Information
What does PEGI do?
judges what the age ratings should be for games. Produces guidance for consumers (mainly aimed at parents) so that they can decide if a game is suitable.
