Q

What is Air Pollution?

A

Trace substances concentrated at greater levels than average Air

Earth’s atmosphere is made up of many different elements (NOA) Nitrogen Oxygen Argon. But a small percent has several trace gases which are DEATHLY!! and can damage the health of people animals and plants.

Q

Where is most Air pollution Generated from?

A

Factories and Power Plants
(plus motor vehicles)

Factories and power plants producs sulfur dioxoes from burning coal and Burning petroleum in motor vehhicles produces carbon monoxide

Countries with the most Air Pollution Asia and Africa!

Q

At a local scale Air Pollution is most severe where?

A

Urban Areas (like where emission sources are concentrated)

In urban areas the air is polltued becuase of all the factoires and motor vehicles located there!!

Q

What are the 3 Basic componets of Urban Air Pollution?

A

Carbon Monoxide

Hydrocarbons

Particulates

Carbon Monoxide - Breathing this reduces oxygen level in blood

Hydrocarbons - When reacting with sunlight hydrocarbons form photochemical smog which causes respiratory problems

Particulates- Combo of dust and smoke particles (Ex. Exhaust of a diesel truck and dark puff of smoked from a factory)

Q

When does the WORST air Pollution Occur?

A

Winds are slight Sky is Clear and Tempeture inversion exist

When wind blows it spreads the polltuants

Sunlight provides the energy for the formation of Smog

Temperture inversion makes warm air higherand polljutants get trapped on the ground

Q

What is Acid Deposititon?

A

The accumulation of acids (including sulfuric acid and nitric) acid on earth surface

SUPER AFFECTED BY ACID DEPOSISTION IS THE WORLDS PRNICPAL INDUSTRIAL REGIONS!!

Q

What is Acid Perciptation?

A

When acids made by burning fossil feuls (sulfuric oxides + nitrogen oxides) enter the atmosphere combie with water and oxygen then dissovle in water the acids fall as (Rain, Snow, Fog

This damages lakes killing fish and plants on land Concentrationn of acid in soil can injure plants by depriving them of nutients

Q

What is the global scale Air Pollution Climate change problem

A

The average temp of the earth’s surface has increaed because of the burning of fossil feuls and vehicles When fossils feuls burn they relaeasr carbon dioxode in the atmophere and with that the earth’s heat from the surface cant excape raising eath’s temp
