Reasons for industrialisation?

A

Manufactory weapons incase attacked in the future, grain production to use as currency to buy machinery and modernising the industry meant more food for towns and cities.

Reasons for collectivisation?

A
  1. Must catch up to other countries,
  2. mechanised farming meant workers will be freed up for 5 year plans
    3.other countries disliked communism so they must become economically self sufficient.

What is collectivisation?

A

Forcing richer peasants called Kulaks off their land to from towns. They were either killed or sent to Siberia. 10 million died. Collective farms had to give up a huge quota leaving little for themselves . Many peasants free and could work in Kolkhoz. Grain was produced to feed workforce and to be exported to purchase machinery.
