Why did the Industrial Revolution not happen in China too?
They did not have coal
Why did a stable political system need to be established before the Industrial Revolution could occur?
Civil war is not good for businesses, if you want to invest money in a factory, it helps to know that the state can’t seize this property
Did the British Empire cause the Industrial Revolution?
Partially; the British Empire provided income for Britain from colonial exploitation and slave labour that meant that they could afford to industrialise
Why was coal used to fuel steam engines?
Wood and charcoal couldn’t keep up with the demand, which led to a boom in coal extraction - source of controllable heat
How did commercial agriculture lead to an increase in factory workers?
Fewer workers were needed to farm more crops, which meant labourers could find better-paid jobs in mills and factories

How were children treated in factories and mills?
Exploited for their size, underpaid, whipped, baggy clothing could get caught in machines, fined for washing or being dirty
What were some problems with canals?
Traffic jams; too narrow to fit a good amount of barges so they would get stuck

Centralised workplace was introduced, as well as the division of labour
