Inductors and electro magnetic Flashcards
What is an inductor?
An inductor is a coil wound round a piece of iron
What is the symbol and unit?
Circuit Symbol (L)
Unit: Henry (H
What do inductors do?
Inductors impede, oppose, try to stop, changes in electric current
What is inductance and it’s formula?
The inductance of an inductor give a measure of how much it opposes the change in current according to this simple formula:-
V = Inductance X rate of change of current
What are the 3 formulas for impedance?
- XL=ωL
- ω=2πf
- XL=2πfL
What is an LC filter circuit?
An LC circuit is made up of an inductor (L) and a capacitor (C). Here, both are connected series.
What is an LC circuit also known as?
An LC circuit is also sometimes referred to as a tank circuit, resonant circuit, or tuned circuit
How is the ratio of primary voltage to secondary voltage equal to the ratio of primary turns to secondary turns?
Vp / Vs = Np / Ns = Is / Ip
How do electric motors work?
They work using magnetic forces which are controlled and created using electric currents.
What is the magnetic flux density(B)?
The magnetic flux density or magnetic induction is the number of lines of force passing through a unit area of material measured in Tesla
What is the key electro-magnetic formula to find magnetic flux density?
B = 𝝁𝒐 x H
𝝁𝒐 is the permeability of free space
H is magnetic field intensity (Amps/metre)
What is magnetic flux?
The total magnetic flux coming out of something like a coil or a magnet, or passing through a coil
What is the formula for magnetic flux?
𝜱 = 𝜷 ⋅ A
