Informed Consent
- the client fully understands
Consent
- to have permission to perform a task
Implied Consent
Not verbally expressed by a person, but inferred from a persons actions
Consent must include:
1) reason for the treatment
2) what will be done
3) how it will be done
4) who is going to do it
5) expected outcomes
6) other treatment options
7) consequences of not receiving treatment
Elements of Consent
1) must be related to treatment
2) must be given voluntarily
3) must not be obtained through misrepresentation
4) must be informed
Consent can be withdrawn at anytime
Peristalsis
- the involuntary contraction and relaxation of the smooth muscles creating wavelike movements that push contents through ie) intestines
Social Health
- stable and satisfying relationships ie) good and active, positive relationships
PSW Role
- encourage outings and accompany clients
- be a good support system
Cognitive Health
- keeping the mind active ie) reading, crosswords and knitting
PSW Role - encourage or work alongside resident

- absence of negative emotions and the ability to react or adapt to certain situations ie) confidence, smiling

- achieved by believing in a power greater then ones self ie) Catholic , Jehovah’s Witness

- porter to spiritual services
Physical Health
- strong body free of disease ie) diet, exercise, sleep, hygiene
PSW Role - assist with diet, exercise and hygiene
- provide a clean safe environment
Charter of Rights and Freedoms
1) the freedom of conscience and religion
2) the freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression
3) the freedom of peaceful assembly and association
4) the right to vote
5) the right to enter, stay or leave Canada
6) the right to life, liberty and security
Independence
- not depending on others
- complete control and balance of ones own life
Dependence
- relying on others for support
- unable to manage without help
Interdependence
- relying on each other
