Individual Test Flashcards
Test For Carbonates
Add Carbonate to dilute Acid. Produces CO2+H20+Salt. It produces a gas that turns limewater milky as a white ppt forms
Test for Carbonates Heat
When carbonates besides K/Na are heated they produce CO2
Nitrates A
When dil h2SO4 ans FeSO4 is added to a test tube , then conc H2So4 without being shook a brown ring is formed which confirms the presence of a nitrate
Nitrates B
When Nitrates minus K/Na are heated they produce NO2 and O2
Nitrates C
This is detected by reducing the Nitrate into Ammonia. This is done by adding Al powder and NaOH under strong heating. If the gas produced turns red litmus blue (hence is ammonia gas) a nitrate is present
Sulphates
Adding H2So4 followed by BaCl or BaNO3 results in a white ppt confirming presence
Chloride
Adding H2SO4 followed by AgNO3 produces a white ppt to confirm presence
