Personality - 2 study examples

- Gossop and Eysenck (1980) - found after studying 200 drug addicts, they found addicts scored high psychoticism and lower extraversion vs control.
- John Kerr (1996) - he suggested that there were too many traits which has been linked to addiction that most people in society have these personality traits to a certain level.

Comings et al (1996) - the A1 variant of the DRD2 gene was more prominent in smokers (48.7%) vs the general (25.9%)

Cognitive biases - study

Joukhador et al (2003) - created a gambling belief questionnaire which covered a range of cognitive biases e.g. the illusion of control - found out out of 52 problem gambler’s + 52 social gamblers - problem gamblers scored higher across all beliefs assessed.
