INDIRECT RETAINER Flashcards
When the distal extension denture base is dislodged from its basal seat, It tends to rotate around the ___ lines.
fulcrum
T/ F
Indirect retainer components should be placed as far as possible from the distal extension base, which provides the best leverage advantage against dislodgement
T
T/ F
the nearest canine tooth or the mesioocclusal surface of the first premolar may be the best location for the indirect retention.
T
CLASS 1
passes through most posterior abutments
CLASS 2
passes diagonally through most posterior teeth on one side and abutment on distal extension side
CLASS 3
passes through two principal abutments
CLASS 4
passes through two abutments adjacent to the single edentulous space
The most commonly used indirect retainer
AUXILIARY OCCLUSAL REST
located on an occlusal surface and as far away from
the distal extension base as possible
AUXILIARY OCCLUSAL REST
in a Class I arch, this location is usually on the
mesial marginal ridge of the first premolar on each side of the arch
AUXILIARY OCCLUSAL REST
in a Class II arch, these are usually placed on the marginal ridge of the first premolar tooth on the opposite side of the arch from the distal extension base
AUXILIARY OCCLUSAL REST
used when mesial marginal ridge of the 1st premolar is too close to the fulcrum line or when the teeth are overlapped so that the fulcrum line is not accessible
CANINE REST
such a rest may be made more effective by placing the minor connector in the embrasure anterior to the canine
CANINE REST
consists of a finger extension from premolar rest to the lingual slope of adjacent canine
CANINE EXTENSION FROM OCCLUSAL REST
applied when first premolar is the primary abutment
