When deciding whether to extract a tooth or not, what is your decision based upon ?
A
- clinical examination
(decide whether the tooth is viable and then whether or not it can be restored) - radiographic assessment
(look for unusual anatomy or related important structures)

When do we tend to remove teeth ?
A
- tooth is unrestorable
- symptomatic partially erupted teeth, usually wisdom teeth
- traumatic position
- orthodontic indications
- interference with construction of dentures (unusual)

what are reasons for teeth being unrestorable
A
- gross caries
- advanced periodontal disease
- tooth/root fracture
- severe tooth surface loss (grinding)
- pulpal necrosis
- apical infection

What are luxators used for
A
they are used to tear and widen the PDL space to mobilise the tooth

what are the three basic modes of action for tooth elevation
A
- wheel and axle
- lever
- wedge

A
- wedge in so tip is in deep and then rotate
- tooth will elevate
