Indications for Cardiac Monitoring Flashcards
What is an ECG
The only diagnostic test that directly assesses the electrical conduction of the heart and can tell us what type of cardiac rhythm the pt is experiencing in that moment.
What is the Gold standard of ECG?
12-lead ECG
What are the different types of ECG?
-Bedside
-Telemetry
-Holter Monitoring
What are common conditions that alter myocardial morphology or conduction pathways?
-MI-forms scar tissue that interferes with conduction.
-Myocardial remodeling- dilation and hypertrophy (HF)
Common acute conditions that alter the excitability of the myocardium?
-Potassium or magnesium imbalances
-Conditions that activate SNS
-Hypoxia
-Acidosis
What imaging test shows changes in morphology and functioning of the myocardium?
Echocardiogram
What diagnostic test shows the blood supply to the myocardium?
-Angiogram
-Myocardial perfusion imaging (MIBI)
Diagnostic blood tests to test for metabolic imbalances?
Electrolyte imbalances (K+ mg+), troponin
What is an Echocardiogram?
an ultrasounds of the heart that can be used to assess things such as ejection fraction, myocardial wall movement, and functioning of valves.
What is a Myocardial perfussion imaging?
-Evaluates blood flow to the heart at rest, and under stress.
-Uses radiopharmaceutical tracer to clearly image myocardial perfusion.
What is the main contraindication of MIBI?
If the pt is pregnant or breastfeeding because the tracer is put through the bloodstream.
What are the 2 separate tests done for MIBI?
Rest and stress over 2 days, start with rest, then stress
Patient teaching for MIBI
Stop all caffeine 24hrs before the test. (analgesics that contain acetaminophen and codeina)
-Remain fasting for 4 hrs before test
If the pt becomes distressed during the stress test, what should be done?
they physical test will be stopped and , in the case of a medication stress test, the antidote to dipyridamole (aminophylline) will be administered.
What does DOAC stand for
Direct Oral Anticoagulants
What is SIADH stand for?
Syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone
What causes SIADH?
Hypersecretion of ADH (Anti-salt)
Explain how SIADAH happens.

What are some symptoms of SIADH?
