- Increased extensibility of collagen fibers of tendons and joint capsules

Contraindications for ultrasound (12)
- Malignancy
- Hemorrhage
- ischemia
- thrombus
- infection
- gonads
- eye
- Pelvic/abdominal/lumnbar areas of pregnant women
- spinal cord after laminectomy
- plastic and cemented implants (metal is okay)
- near or over electronic implants
- unknown etiology

Indications for diathermy (5)
- OA
- neck/back pain
- ankle pain
- dermal wound
- msk injuries/pain
Contraindications for diathermy (11)
- loss of sensation
- electronic implants
- surgically implanted metal
- metal in contact with skin
- Cancerous areas
- pregnant patients
- hemorrhage
- ischemic areas
- testes
- eyes
- open growth plates
Precautions for diathermy

- pregnant operator should not exposed daily and should remain 3 ft from device
- copper IUD
- Other patients should be at 10 ft distance
- Other EPA devices at 10 ft distance
- mentally confused patients
Indications for cold laser (4)
- pain
- tendinopathy and epicondylitis
- wound management
- RA and OA
Contraindications for cold laser (7)
- CA
- Pregnancy (abdomen and pelvis)
- direct exposure to eyes
- hemorrhage
- thyroid
- over open wounds (unless covered with clear barrier)
- epileptic patients

- sympathetic ganglia, vagus, cardiac region of heart disease

- may cause decreased motor skill and and reaction time
- can increase fever

- actue phlebitis
