Musical features of Indian Classical

A
  • sitar improvises round a scale called a raga
  • sitar features microtonal bends
  • sitar plays with no meter and plays freely as the improvise
  • tabla plays rhythm cycles underneath the sitar, often play very rapid rhythms toward the end of the piece
  • rhythm pattern played by Tabla is called the tala
  • tanpura play drone, with one or two pitches which sustain throughout the whole piece

Gat ( end section ) ehere we hear tabla and gets faster building to the end
