Q

green revolution

A

Rice and wheat was introduced to India with the aim of making the nation self sufficient, the crops had increased resistance to natural threats such as heavy rain and strong winds. Another benefit would be creation of jobs in the agro-chemicals sector. However, they were not successful as they were dependant on irrigation and agro-chemicals, this favoured large scale farmers and priced smaller, local scale farmers out of the market.

Q

How has government policy affected food security

A

The 2013 national food security aimed to alleviate food insecurity with the focus of subsidising grain production. It was unsuccessful as it dont not mitigate issues in the supply chain that lead to high amounts of wastage. The government has also limited FDI in this sector, which has also been unpopular as it has blocks firms such as Walmart from introducing expert opinions in this sector.
