a single word or very short line that’s left at the END of a column.
Widow
a design element in which the first letter or letters of a paragraph are increased in size to create a visual effect.
Drop Cap
a typographical design solution in which text is used at a larger point size and positioned prominently on the page.
Pull Quote
drawn with the Type tool, boxes in which you type or place text.
Text Frames
the adjustment of the spacing between individual characters.
Kerning
nds errors before printing.
Pre-flight
Where you add page numbering, guides, margins, columns, and other elements you want to repeat on other pages.
Master Pages
horizontal or vertical non-printing lines that you position on a page.
Guides
two pages in a layout that face each other, as in an open book.
Facing Pages
Allowing images to hang over the edge of the paper, so that when the nal product is printed, the image/color goes right to the edge. Indicated by a red line.
Bleed
Formatting that can be applied to a paragraph(s). It can be used to change the style of body copy and blocks of text throughout a document. It also insures consistency, since every characteristic that makes up the style will be applied to the text.
Paragraph Styles
Space between columns.
Gutter
the vertical space between lines of text.
Leading
seen with a little red box on the bottom right side of a text frame. Either make the box bigger, add a column, or make your text smaller.
Overset Text
an indesign document will create a folder that includes the indesign document, any necessary fonts, linked graphics, text les, and a customized report. Keeps everything together and allows anyone to open the le and see it properly even if they didn’t originally have the fonts, graphics, etc on their computer.
