Independent and Dependent Variables Flashcards
Good experimental design
*Only 1 variable changed in the experiment
*Controlled experiment-all elements kept constant
*Control group confirms results
*Large sample of collected data
Theory
A tested and well supported explanation of why and how something happens
Law
Rules on how nature will behave based on supported theories
Hypothesis
A testable experiment to explain what and why something will happen and the results
Prediction
An attempt to explain the results you predict what you’ll see happen
Independent Variables
“I”ndependent
The variable that
“I”choose to change
Dependent Variables
The variable that responds and is measured or observed
A Variable
Is anything that changes in a scientific experiment
The CONTROL
is what you use to compare the results to in the end of the experiment
Depend Variable=
Responding Variable= Y axis
Manipulated Variable=
Independent Variable = X axis
Constant
The variables are NOT CHANGED in an experiment
Independent Variable
The variable that is CHANGED in the experiment. This variable is being tested.
Dependent Variable
The variable that changes as a result of change in independent variable. This is what you are OBSERVING.
Control Group
Only ONE CONDITION is being changed at a time. This group Is left alone and not expertanted on
