‘une’ is more likely (around 75%) to be used before a noun ending in -e at the end

Exceptional case where word not ending with -e is feminine—> hence, une is used before it

un livre (an exception: it ends with -e but it is masculine)

il y a des pommes sur la table
there are apples on the table OR there are some apples on the table
