What investigations would you do for urinary incontinence?

A
  • continence record
  • urine dipstick +/- MC&S
  • bloods: U&Es (renal function), glucose, Ca

For selected patients:

  • post-void bladder US to look for incomplete emptying
  • X-ray for stones/severe constipation
  • urodynamic tests (always if surgery being considereD)

  • regular toileting
  • pelvic floor exercises
  • measures to improve functional incontinence
  • medication review
  • drugs e.g. oxybutynin
  • surgery e.g. for enlarged prostate, prolapse failed to respond to pessary
  • catheter
