Tell me about the Equality Act 2010
The Equality Act 2010 consolidated and replaced previous anti-discrimination laws, ensuring a cohesive legal framework to protect individuals from discrimination and promote equal opportunities.
What is the aim of the Equality Act 2010?
To eliminate discrimination based on a wide range of protected characteristics, including age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation. The Act aims to create a fair and inclusive society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their personal attributes.
What are protected characteristics?
Personal traits that can be used as a reason to discriminate against someone including: age ,gender reassignment, being married or in a civil partnership, being pregnant or on maternity leave, disability, race including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation.
What is Approved Document M?
Building regulation in England to ensure that people are able to access and use buildings and their facilities (most recently amended May 2024).
