Q

Give a brief explanation of impaired user interfaces

A

In the development of a UI, it is the interface that is considered to be impaired and not the user.

It is a mismatch between the needs of the user and the computer system.

Lastly it considers all aspects can affect a person’s ability to use the software these include ability, language, culture, gender and age.

Q

What are examples of Inclusive design?

A

For UI, there are different versions for different devices such as a version for mobile devices and a version for wearable devices.

In web development, there has been technology with built in attributes for different types of disabilities, and different cultures etc.

Q

What is meant by learn from diversity?

A

Include a diverse range of persons in your design process

Understand their experiences from their perspectives

Do this from the start of the design process

Do not design for a core group of users and then adapt the design for another set

Q

What is meant by solve for one, extend to many?

A

All persons have abilities with limitations by designing with those limitations in mind this can benefit everyone.

Designing for persons with permanent disabilities results in solutions that benefit much larger groups. E.g text to speech
