Q

Epidemiology

A

5th prevalent dis world, 1bil affected, 20% children -12yrs
o Retrospective surveys
o Clinical exam only, no RG
o ≠ ‘minor damage’ –> lots trauma missed, underestimation
o Influence QoL child+parent = psychological bullying/-ve judgement, social functioning

Q

Hard Tissue - first 4 types

A
  1. Enamel Infraction = confined e ≠loss tooth struct, transillumination, fracture lines
  2. Enamel Fracture = no d expose loss
  3. *E-D Fracture = no p expose loss uncomplicated
  4. E-D-P Fracture = p expose loss complicated crown

Q

Hard Tissue - last 2 types

A
  1. Crown-Root Frac = e-d-cementum, can involve pulp comp/un
    - Fracture extend below gingival crevice + AB margin
    - Crown fragment can still be attached
  2. Root Frac = c-d-pulp, less common, *middle 1/3 root
    - Classify if coronal fragment displaced
    - Classify location fracture line (coronal, mid, apical)
    - Horizontal/Vertical

Q

Soft Tissue - first 2 types

A
  1. Concussion (bruise) = injure tooth support structures, ≠mobility/displacement, v TTP
    - haemorrhage+odema, PDL fibres intact
  2. Subluxation = ↑mobility, gingival haemorrhage, PDL fibres tear (tooth hurts, bleed g)

Q

Soft Tissue - second 2 types

A
  1. Extrusion = partial disp out alveolar socket, extruded tooth longer>contralateral
    - Rupture perio fibres+neurovascular bundle, “ “, (occlusal interference)
  2. Lateral Lux = disp other than axially, +comminution/fracture alveolar bone+socket
    - simultaneous rupture+compression PDL, disrupt n supply
    - crown disp labially
    - usually immobile, locked in bone
    - high tone percussion

Q

Soft Tissue - third 2 types

A
  1. Avulsion = complete disp out socket, emerg replant/ milk
    - PD cells torn desiccate + ≠heal
  2. Intrusion = upwards disp into alveolar bone
    - Extensive crushing PD structures
    - Disrupt n bundle
    - Most serious –> become necrotic
