In the Atom Flashcards
Where is the Proton?
Protons is located in the nucleus of the atom with the Neutrons.
What is a Proton?
A proton is a subatomic particle which is in the nucleus of the the atom and has a positive charge.
What is the Proton’s charge?
It has a positive charge.
What is a mass number?
The mass number of atoms is the number of Protons and Neutrons added together.
How heavy is the proton compared to Electron?
Protons are around 2000x heavier than the electron.
What is the relationship with the atomic number and Protons?
The atomic number tells us how many Protons and Electrons there are in the atom. The atomic number tells us what kind of atom is it. Also the number of Protons and Electrons are the same because then the substance will be neutral.
What kind of force binds the Neutrons and Protons together?
A force called strong force. It is about 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stronger than gravity. But the force doesn’t reach far so only neutrons and protons can stick together.
What are Neutrons?
It is a subatomic particle that does not have charge and it is found nucleus.
What is the mass of the neutrons?
They have the same mass as Protons and it is ~2000 x heavier than an electron.
What is an Electron?
An electron is a sub atomic particle have is found in the electron shells around the nucleus and have a negative charge.
Where is the neutrons located?
They are in the nucleus.
What charge does a neutron have?
They have no charge at all, they are neutral.
Where are the electrons located?
They are located in the electron shells, outside the nucleus.
What charge does the electrons have?
They have a negative charge.
What are electron shells?
Shells contain a certain amount of electrons in each shell and it is a place where the electrons are.
