What is the aim of primary impressions?
Should accurately record clinically relevant landmarks without excessive distortion
What is the aim of master impressions (2nd impressions)?
Record denture bearing area, functional depth and width of sulci
Use custom made special trays prescribed after primary impressions
What materials are commonly used for master impressions?
Alginate and greenstick (for tray adaptation)
How do you disinfect an impression?
Rinse in running water to remove saliva, blood or debris
Disinfect for 10 minutes in disinfectant solution in perform
Rinse thoroughly
Cover alginate impressions with a damp paper towel
Label and place is a plastic lab bag
On lab prescription indicate that impressions have been disinfected which must be signed by supervising clinician
