Jojo turns around, feels the need to prove his strength and masculinity due to societal external pressures which have shaped his character.
Jojo blows up his face. Grabs the grenade, lobs it ahead, bounces back and explodes.

Blue butterfly [symbolism]
Jojo goes into town, rests and sees a blue butterfly settled on the pavement. Jojo smiles at this, takes interest and follows the butterfly.
He crouches and admires the butterfly. He looks up and sees his mother’s shoes hanging from the Gallows.
