Q

What were some of Dr. Richter’s achievements?

A

His discovery of psi, and Dr. TIng’s J, started the “November revolution” that unearthed a family of new particles and revised the foundations of physics, which established the existence of new types of quarks.

Driving force behind the Stanford Positron Electron Accelerating Ring (Spear), paid for by the DOE.

Led the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) from 1984 to 1999 and oversaw the construction of the Stanford Linear Collider.

Was a member of the DOE advisory committee on nuclear energy.

Authored “Beyond Smoke and Mirrors: Climate Change and Energy in the 21st Century” (2010).

Received National Medal of Science from Pres. Obama in 2014.
