Rum producers protested angrily because they thought the tax would eat up their profits

- Colonists were made to pay part of the cost of stationing British troops in America.
- They were forced to supply British troops with a place to live, fuel, candles, and cider/beer

Britain tried to raise money by taxing imported goods

The British attempted to raise money by placing a stamp on every piece of paper to show a tax had been paid to the British.

By sending petitions to Parliament, burning stamped paper, and attacking British officers

- Colonists threw snowballs at British soldiers and a shot was fired.
- The attack caused the death of three individuals. It was also used to stir up the emotions and rally support for the colonists’ cause.

The Sons of Liberty protested the Tea Act by dressing up as Mohawk Indians and dumping tea into the Ocean.
