Locutionary act?
The act of opening your mouth and producing meaning sequence of speech sounds.
Illocutionary act?
The action that you do by saying something. (Apology or request)
Speech act theory?
By speaking were also doing an action.
Performative verbs
Promise Deny Name Resign Apologize.
Examples of performative verbs.

Examples of non performative verbs.

Direct illocutionary.
There is a direct match between action and grammar.

Indirect illocutionary act.
Mismatch between the action done and the grammar used.
Can you tell me what time it is? - yes no question grammar is used for a WH -content
Felicity condition.
The participants and the circumstance must be appropriate for the valid performance of an illocutionary act.
