Q

What is Fiber Optic Internet Service? What’s the difference between FTTH and FTTC? What device provides an internet connection with this service?

A
  • Fiber Optic Internet Service is a way of connecting to the internet via small thing glass tubes that transmit data in the form of light; provides fastest throughput.
  • FTTH (Fiber to the Home) offers fastest and reliable internet service within a home.
  • FTTC (Fiber to the Curb) offers a fiber optic connection to a central point in a local area that connects to existing copper phone lines.
  • Modem.

Q

What are two ways of connecting to the internet wirelessly? How do they work?

A
  • Satelite involves connecting to a satelite dish to an orbiting satelite via wireless signals. Used in remote and rural areas where other forms of internet connection isn’t available.
  • Cellular Based Services uses electromagnetic waves from a cell tower to connect devices to a network. Different generations of Cellular internet services includes 3G,4G and 5G.

Q

What are the 5 IEEE WIFI standards and what are their respective bands?

A
  • 802.11a = 5GHz.
  • 802.11b = 2.4 GHz.
  • 802.11g = 2.4 GHz.
  • 802.11n = 2.4 + 5GHz.

Q

What are the following Wifi security standards? Which one is the most secure?

Open(Captive Portal), WEP, WPA, WPA2

A
  • Open Network is a way of connecting to a network with no authentication or credentials to access it. Captive portal is a webpage that will authenicate and validate access to the network once the user confirms terms and conditions.
  • WEP is older and weaker encryption.
  • WPA is more secure than WEP, requires a password or key to access the network and transmit data.
  • WPA2 uses an encryption technique called AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) + password or key.
