Other uses for the imperfect tense
to describe people, places, and situations in the past
Hacia mucho calor - It used to be very hot.
El estadio estaba lleno. The stadium was to be full.
Los espectadores gritaban. The spectators yelled.
Other uses for the imperfect tense:
to talk about a past action that was continuously or that kept happening
Los atletas se entrenaban en el gimnasio.
The athletes trained in the gym.

to describe the date, time, age, and weather in the past.
Era el 5 de noviembre.
It was the 5th of November.
Eran ls seis de la manana pero ya hacia calor.
It was six in the morning but it was already hot.
