A

Pay was better in the army than pay for work on the farm; the demand for supplies , weapons amd fortifications and so on boosted industry and gave employment

Feudal duties - recruitment .The king forced civilians

A

To fight in the army.Desertion amd refusal was common.
Civilians increasingly chose to pay scutage instead of going to war .
Fighting meant time away from family and home , as well as great risk of death and injury
Recruits were expected to provide their own equipmwnt and provisions for 40 days .

Impact of warfare on civilians

A

Sieges involved cutting off supplies of food and water from towns and cities , increasingly bombarding them, fording them to surrender.This caused suffering for the community.
Raids on communities caused severe suffering.Sometimes the enemy was paid to go away.
Plunder was common.Gave the army supplies and starved the enemy
Ransom could be demanded from enemy communities for protection and from captives in order to secure their release
