Impact of Training on Lifestyle Diseases Flashcards
What is the effect of mainly participating in sedentary activities?
Less exercise and therefore, more chances of lifestyle disease
What are the cardiovascular diseases?
- Atherosclerosis
- CHD
- Heart Attack
- Stroke
What is atherosclerosis?
Arterial walls become thicker because high cholesterol clogs arteries and lumen decreases inside due to the fatty deposits
What is the effect on VO2 max from atherosclerosis?
VO2 max decreases and that increases the strain on the heart making blood clots more likely
What is the cause of atherosclerosis?
Chronic high blood pressure
What is CHD?
Atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries that stops blood supply to the heart
What is the effect of CHD?
Cardiac muscles have a limited ability to repair and cause angina or a heart attack
How are heart attacks cause by lifestyle diseases?
Fatty deposit breaks away from the arterial wall which causes a blood clot, or blocks the coronary artery
What is the cause of a stroke?
A blockage in the cerebral artery
What is an ischaemic stroke?
Blood supply to the brain is blocked
What is an haemorphagic stroke?
A blood vessel bursting inside of the brain
How can cardiac diseases be prevented?
- Reduced low-density lipoproteins
- Increase high-density lipoproteins (removing cholesterol, slowing the process of atherosclerosis).
What are the respiratory diseases?
Asthma
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
What is asthma?
The constriction of airways by the inflammation of the mucus membrane
What is the 2 causes of asthma?
- Allergens
- Exercise induced
