adoption and children act (2002)
changed the law on adoption to give unmarried cohabiting couples, including gay couples, the right to adoption on the same basis as married couples.
the civil partnership act (2004)
enabled same-sex couples to obtain legal recognition of their relationship by forming a civil partnership.
