Inflammatory bowel disease is a chronic inflammatory condition resulting from inappropriate activation of an immune response within the gastrointestinal mucosa
what are the features of Crohn’s disease?
- Inflammatory cells and fibrosis throughout all layers of the bowel wall
- affect bowel can be interspersed with normal bowel (skip lesions)
- Granulomas
what are the features of Ulcerative colitis?
Restricted to the intestinal mucosa
extending through the rectum and colon.
- Pseudopolyps
Can become toxic mega colon
how accurate should a pipette be?
+/- 1% standard devation
what is the inflammation of crohns disease?
through the GI tract
what is the inflammation of ulcerative colitis?
only in the rectum and colon
what is the microbiota of crohns disease?
much higher levels of bacteria than normal
what is the microbiota of ulcerative colitis?
Much lover levels of bacteria than normal
