Immunology Flashcards
What is the nemonic “SHiNE SKiS”?
Encapsulated bacteria removed by spleen: Streptococcus pneumoniae Haemophilus influenza B Neisseria meningitidis Escherichia coli Salmonella spp Klebsiella pneumoniae Streptococci Group B
Where do T cells mature? B cells?
T = Thymus B = Bone Marrow
What cell types are part of the innate immunity?
a. neutrophils (release ROS)
b. macs
c. monocytes
d. dendritic cells
e. NK cells
f. complement
What cell types are part of the adaptive immunity?
a. T cells
b. B cells
c. circulating Abs
What are toll-like receptors? Are they part of adaptive or innate immunity?
TLRs recognize things that are pathogen specific like LPS and ssDNA.
Innate.
Does MHCI present endo or exo pathogens? To whom? MHCII?
MHCI: present endogenous pathogen (eg- viral) to CD8+ cytotoxic T cells.
MCHII: presents exogenous pathogens to CD4+ T helper cells.
What happens in the thymus if a T cell attacks “self” cells?
The cell is apoptosed. This is negative selection.
What do Th1 cells do?
They release cytokines which help B cells class swtich… IgM > IgG for example.
What do Th2 cells do?
Important for allergies, IgE sticks to mast cells.
Th2 = Th(achoo!)
