Immunology Flashcards
Peri-rectal abscesses are seen most commonly with?
Hyper Ig-M syndrome
Components of natural immune system?
Neutrophils, monocytes, complement
It is the first line of defense, non specific, does not rely on T or B cells.
Most common early complement deficiency
C2
Increased risk of pneumococcal infection
Deficiency of late complement increases risk of?
Neisseria infection
Only immunoglobulin produced by the fetus?
IgM
Where is IgA present?
Most abundantly in respiratory and GI tracts. Human colostrum and breast milk
When does the bone marrow become the exclusive site for B cell formation?
30 weeks gestation
Types of immune mediated neutropenia?
alloimmune neutropenia (maternal antibodies to paternal and fetal neutrophils. omphalitis and skin infections are the most common infections, but serious and life-threatening infections, including meningitis, may also occur) neonatal passive autoimmune autoimmune neutropenia of infancy
How do you diagnose immune mediated neutropenia?
presence of circulating antineutrophil antibodies (positive granulocyte agglutination test)
What is Kostmann’s syndrome?
Autosomal recessive
Maturational arrest of marrow myeloid precursors
Hypocellular bone marrow
Persistent and severe neutropenia with an ANC less than 200/μL.
Responds to GCSF
