Immunodeficiency - Secondary Flashcards
What is secondary immunodeficiency?
Caused by external factors: drugs, nutrition, virus, burns
How to corticosteroids affect immunodeficiency?
Change leukocyte circulation - decreased lymphocyte number
Repeated dose - decreased antibodies
Decreased monocyte - return to normal 24 hours, increased neutrophil release - mature neutrophil from bone marrow
How does cancer tx cause immunodeficiency -radiotherapy/.
Break DNA strand - increase apoptosis
Agents target cancer cells but also affect bone marrow and lymphoid tissue - reduce immune cell proliferation, differentiation and function
How can chemotherapy cause immunodeficiency?- Cyclophosphamide
Drug activated inside body - cross link DNA
Affect lymphocytes- loss Ab production
What immunosuppressant is used in organ transplant?
Cyclosporin
Affect T cell (IL-2 production)
Side effect: fungus beauveria Nivea
Other use cyclosporin?
Psoriasis, dermatitis, autoimmune urticaria
