PCV13 and ProQUAD
First two years: giving vaccines between every 2-4 months
PCV13: good for kids without cochlear implants, but if they do need something extra (PCV 23)
ProQUAD: only in kids 2 and older because can cause febrile seizures in younger patients
Vaccine Adverse Effects
Pain Redness Swelling at injection site Headache Fever Fatigue
Specific Vaccine Adverse Effects
HPV- syncope
MCV4- syncope
Tdap- syncope, GI distress, sore joints, and body aches
Live attenuated influenza vaccination (LAIV)- rhinorrhea, nasal congestion, and sore throat
MMR- rash and lymphadenopathy
Varicella- rash
Vaccine Specific Contraindications
HPV- hypersensitivity to yeast
MVC4- reaction to diphtheria toxoid or latex allergy
Tdap- latex allergy
Boostrix- latex
Adacel- no latex
Trivalent influenza vaccine (TIV)- eggs
LAIV- eggs, chronic conditions, aspirin therapy or immunodeficiency
MMR- anaphylaxis to gelatin or neomycin, immunodeficiency or pregnancy
Varicella- anaphylaxis to gelatin or neomycin, immunodeficiency or pregnancy
IPV- taking streptomycin, neomycin, or polymyxin B
Immunosuppression
Medical:
Leukemia
Lymphoma
HIV
Medications:
High-dose corticosteroids (prednisone)
Anti-metabolites
Transplant-related immunosuppressive drugs
Symptomatic HIV or Severe Non-HIV Immunocompromised Persons
Cannot give live-virus vaccine.
May require additional vaccines when compared with healthy persons.
May receive decreased protection from some/all vaccines administered.
