Immunity Flashcards
What does itis mean?
Inflammation
What is a sign of disease?
A visual sign
What is a symptom of disease?
Something you feel
What is disease?
Disorder of a systems normal functions. A problem with the mind or body leading to a departure from good health

What is a chronic disease?
Long term debilitating disease that develops slowly and persists
What are the 4 main types of disease?
Pathogenic, deficiency, hereditary, and physiological
How are diseases split into 2 categories?
Communicable and non communicable
What is a pathogen?

What is disease transmission?
The transfer of a pathogen from infected to uninfected people
What is a parasite?

Examples of bacterial diseases?
Cholera and TB
Examples of fungi diseases?
Athletes foot and ringworm
Examples of viral diseases?
Cold influenza and aids
Examples of protist diseases?
Malaria
What is an immune response?
Specific response to a pathogen, involves the action of lymphocytes and the production of antibodies
What are antibodies?
Protein molecules produced and released in response to an antigen
What are antigens?
Foreign molecules (proteins or glycoproteins) that provoke an immune response
