Immunity Flashcards
What cells involve Anti-body mediated immunity
B-Lymphocytes
How are antibodies produced
They are secreted by plasma cells which develop from Cloned b-cells
How can different antibodies function
Neutralise toxins - antitoxins
Clump or agglutinate bacteria - agglutinins
Attach to viruses
Destroy bacterial cell walls
Attach to bacteria
What are the steps of antibody mediated immunity
- Bacteria invades the body
- Bacterial antigen is recognised by the correct B-Cell with the complementary receptors
- The B-cell divides by mitosis to produce plasma and memory cells
- The plasma cells produce antibodies, which destroy the bacteria
What is important when using antibiotic resistant
The antibiotics are only used when necessary
The person prescribed them completes the course
Hospitals take care to not spread the bacteria
The antibiotics are only used as a last resort
What are consequences of antibiotic resistance
Formation of superbugs
