Immune cells Flashcards
What are Th2 cells?
CD4+ T-cells that activate B lymphocytes, stimulate Ab production
Also secrete IL-4, IL-5, IL-10
What are Th1 cells?
CD4+ T-cells that activate macrophages, NK cells, cytotoxic T-cells Also secrete IFN-gamma, IL-2
What are Th17 cells?
T-cells responsible for anti-parasitic and anti-fungal immunity
Also secrete IL-17 and IL-23
Detected and probably responsible for several autoimmune diseases
What are T cytotoxic cells (CTL)?
CD8+ T-cells that kill cells infected with intracellular microbes and kills tumor cells
What are Tregs?
Regulatory T-cells that down-regulate immune response
Also secrete
What are the immune cells of innate immunity?
Macrophages, dendritic cells, natural killer cells (NK cells), neutrophils, basophils, eosinophils
What are B-cells?
B lymphocytes responsible for antigen recognition and antibody secretion
What are plasma cells?
B lymphocytes that only secrete antibody
What is the mechanism of NK cells?
Nk cells are TCR/CD3 cells that resemble T-cells but don’t need priming or antigen presentation. NK cells can recognize cells that lose/reduce expression of MHC molecules. If no MHC, they kill MHC-low or negative cells (cancer cells, cells infected by virus)
