What was the red scare?
The fear that immigration was spreading communist ideas
Why was there an increasing fear of communism in 1920s America?
Russia had become communist after the Russian revolution of 1917. ( a big proportion of immigrants were Russian)
Who were anarchists and what did they do?
Anarchists believe in not having a leader, they distributed pamphlets promoting overthrowing the government
What happened in 1919?
A bomb was planted in a church in Milwaukee and killed 10 people
What happened in June 1919, to do with Palmer?
A bomb went off, that killed his wife and children, and almost him
What was the government’s reaction, regarding the Palmer raids?
J. Edgar Hoover was appointed by Palmer to look into communism through immigration. He built up 60,000 files on suspects, even though only 556 of them had facts and proof.

They didn’t get a share of the economic boom. They had bad jobs and lived in a poor area segregated from Americans.
